Packing

Now I can devote some time to thinking about going to China. We have a very fun trip planned - where we fly from Boston to Beijing, then to Xian (to see the Terra Cotta soldiers) and finally ending up in Shanghai. I'm going on this trip with my husband (der) but also with my friends Paula and Steph. The big reason for the trip is to visit Bernie (Aaron's father) who has lived there for the past 3 years. Understandably, he gets lonely living in a foreign country... so we like to go over when we can. Bernie does plastics design - which involves a lot of trouble shooting with the factories. He found that living over there was easier than trying to communicate over e-mail, but it is hard on him to be away from the familiar things we are so used to in the US.

Anyway - the plane flight to Beijing alone is going to be about 18 hours (with all the stops) so I've been planning what sort of knitting to bring with me. It can't be too big (not too much space to spread out on a plane) but it can't be so small that I finish it right away. It can't be so complicated that it is hard to pick up in the middle of a row - but it can't be so boring that I get sick of knitting it either. So, over on My Knitting Life , she is talking about the Bpt sweater from Knitty. That looks like it fits all the travel knitting requirements - plus I have the exact right yarn for it in my stash. I'll need to make the body longer... but I have plenty of yarn to cover it.

Goodie.

But - that won't stop me from going to the yarn store tonight and getting supplies for a pair of Latvian Mittens... got to have options, right?
